I'm in charge of the little kids at church and I wanted to come up with a simple, but fun way to celebrate each ones birthday. So, here is my cute little towel Birthday Cake! It's just two bath towels rolled together for the bottom and two hand towels rolled together for the top. You can decorate it however you want! This one is simple and I added fun pencils as candles for the kids to choose when it's their birthday. I think they'll like it!

I had someone ask for a "Money Monster" tooth fairy pillow recently, so I thought since I was making one, I should make two!! The blue one is for my 6 year old son, who how his first loose tooth! I sure hope that thing comes out soon so he can use his little monster....oh, and b/c there is totally a adult tooth coming up behind it, yikes!!

Making these little monsters, makes me want to make a few big ones as gifts for my kiddos for Christmas...we'll see if I can pull it off!!! Are you giving any handmade gifts this year??

My friend Tanya has more style in her pinky than I will ever have! She has amazing style both in her wardrobe and in her home. We have been in full swing over here and life is busy!!! So much for a relaxing summer, we are keeping busy with an exciting "Alphabet Summer", swim lessons, mini-vacations, family visits, etc! Not to mention a lot of new responsibilities at church for me...ahh!! Where has all the time gone! I apologize for the lack of blogging...unfortunately it pretty much reflects my lack of crafting...sigh. We did manage to redo our mud/laundry room a month ago, I just need to get some pictures and I'll show you! But for now, here is my most recent creation. I just knew I had to make this shirt for my little Lincoln. There is a great tutorial over at MADE. Have I mentioned how much I am loving this baby...or as I affectionately call him, BABE Lincoln.

I love this baby blanket from V & Co. I knew that I wanted to make it as soon as I saw it! My husbands co-worker just had a baby and so I had the perfect reason to make this sweet "baby life" quilt. It's so simple and bright! I added a jumbo ric-rac into the binding and put super soft fabric (it was actually a blanket) on the back. I sure hope she likes it!

I've been enjoying this little blog so much and am amazed that anyone even reads it...let alone over a thousand people...woah(thanks)! It's really just a place for me to keep track of all my little projects, but since I started it, it has opened a whole new world of crafting! I can't believe all the people who are "getting their craft on" out there and all the fun blogs showing what everyone is working on. I could spend all day looking at craft blogs (and sometimes I practically do)!! So, since I love crafting so much, I decided to start up a little Etsy shop. And I came up with a really original name...just kidding! It's called Get Your Craft On SHOP. I plan on selling all sorts of things, but for now there are just a few hats on there. I really like making these fun little baby hats. I recently made this one for Lincoln and did a little photo shoot with him. Check out this cute kid.

My friend Tanya is an amazing party planner! When she plans a party, there isn't a single detail that goes unnoticed! I recently went to a party of hers and it was awesome! The theme was Mad Hatter's Tea Party. Can you spot all the different symbolism from the movie? Oh, and while you're looking at the fun party decor, check out Tanya's amazing home decor.

One of the moms of a little girl in Brynlee's dance class asked if I could make her daughter a TuTu dance bag. Of course I said yes! I made this one a bit different than Brynlee's and I think I like it even more.

I am still sewing, but things are a lot busier since this little cutie came along. And yes, he is a boy laying on a pink blanket...oops!

Next on my list to make is a quilt for my husband's co-worker who is expecting her first baby girl.

One of my best friends, Jen, had her baby boy a couple weeks ago. Here is the diaper clutch and baby hat I made for her. She let me get a bit girly with the clutch (since she will be the one carrying it) and I made the baby hat out of an old shirt of hers...kinda fun!

The Ruffle Foot

Do you have a ruffle foot for your sewing machine? It is the coolest thing ever! I bought one a long time ago and it took me months before I ever tried to use it, but once I did I was soo happy!! No pulling threads or trying to get a perfectly even ruffle...it does it for you! Here's what my ruffle foot looks like.

And here's what I quickly whipped up the other day with it.

I just cut some strips of knit fabric,

ruffled them up,

and sewed them on a $2 sweatshirt from WallyWorld.

Quick and easy! Here are a few more pictures of my little model. And yes, she is wearing fake leather pants...who could resist them when they were only $1 at Target!

I can finally check this dress off of my To-Make list! I saw the idea on the blog Brown Paper Packages and I've been wanting to make it ever since! I found the cameo pin at the dollar store and I think it's perfect for the top of the ruffle. The black sparkly herringbone fabric I got at Walmart years ago for $1/yard. I love the way this little dress turned out...and it's super easy to make too! Here are some pictures of Brynlee before we left for church!

Introducing baby Lincoln and his hat

Baby #3 was born early on Thursday morning. Everything went well and we were happy to be at the hospital (we weren't with baby #2...not by choice!) to welcome our new little boy! We named him Lincoln Alexander. He is super cute and we are all happy to have him at home with us. Before he was born though, I had it in my head that I wanted to make him a cute little hat to wear when we had to take him out. After all, he was born in January! I had plenty of little knit hats, but I wanted something ultra-cute! After trying out a couple prototypes, this is what I came up with:

Just a simply two layer knit hat with ear flaps. I added a little argyle embellishment and stitching on the side.

I love it! It's just slightly too big for Lincoln right now, but it won't be big for long! Doesn't he look so cute in it?

a bag for me...um, I mean baby

I've always wanted to make a diaper bag, but I never did with my last two kids, so I thought I would make one this time! I really like messenger bags, so this Simplicity pattern really appealed to me. I'm so happy with how it turned out. I don't think it's quite as orange as the picture makes it look...but it's definitely a cheery orange...I love it!

I followed most of the directions, but did change a few things about the bag. I put in a "hidden" zippered pocket behind the front flap for all of my stuff...wallet, phone, etc.

I also added a little strap with a D-ring for my keys to clip to.

And I really like my purses/bags to go across my body, so I changed the original strap to a longer adjustable strap.

There are lots of pockets too! One large pocket on the back, two elastic pockets on the sides, one zippered pocket under the flap, and more pockets inside!

I love the fabric too! It's duck cloth and I got it on sale for $3/yard...wahoo! I bought 3 yards of it. So, since I had plenty of fabric, I made a cute matching diaper/wipes clutch too! I borrowed the pattern from my friend, Tami...isn't it super cute?

With a coordinating changing pad with fun quilting on it.

And a cute wipes case, of course.

I can't wait to use all my new fun baby stuff! All I need is a baby! Do you think it's too girly since I'm having a boy? It is for me, right?

Nesting

Can nesting mean that you just sew a ton of stuff last minute to get ready for the baby? I've definitely been doing that! Here are a few more things for our little man...whose coming in less than 2 weeks!!!

A car seat blanket. So soft and cuddly.

Some burp cloths...cute ones, of course.

A hooded towel. Now all the kids will have one.

Sweet Dreams

I wanted to make one more thing for my kiddos for Christmas (can you believe it's only a few days away!), so I decided to do personalized pillowcases. I bought some cute LDS fabric over a year ago when I was out in Utah and I thought it would be perfect for this project. It has temples on it and says "I love to see the Temple". And it's flannel, so it will be soft for them to sleep on. I personalized the pillowcases with their name appliqued on white flannel. I love the way they turned out.

I hope my kids like them too!

a dance bag for Brynlee

My daughter, Brynlee, just finished 9 weeks of her very first little "pre-ballet" class. It was the cutest thing I think I have ever seen!!!!

And she loved it!! So, of course I signed her up for another round starting in January...this time with tap class too! And I thought we better get serious about this dancing thing if we want her to be a star (totally sarcastic here)! Really, I just wanted an excuse to make her a super cute little dance bag. After looking around the internet for a little inspiration, I decided to go with the over-the-top Tutu Bag. I made the pattern up for the tote bag, then added the fun "tutu" and blingy name (although, I had to go with Bryn, instead of Brynlee b/c I didn't have any more "E's").

The inside is lined with pink and black zebra print and has 4 pockets inside for her ballet and tap shoes. The top closes with a simple ribbon bow.

I'm going to give it to her for Christmas...I hope she likes it as much as she loves dancing!

Pennant Banner Tutorial

Remember this banner?

Well, I decided I needed a Christmas version as well. Then I decided everyone in my family needed one too...so I made 12! They're quick and easy to make...and pretty cute (this one would be cuter, if I had ironed it before hanging it up...oops!).

Here's a tutorial on how to make one for yourself. You can make one for anything! I think a "Happy Birthday" banner is next up on my list.

Pennant Banner Tutorial

Materials Needed: fabric, felt, Wonder Under, x-large ric rac or binding, sewing basics (sewing machine, thread, scissors, etc.), glue gun and glue sticks

1.) Cut 9” squares out of selected fabric(s). Each square will give you 2 triangles. Cut enough squares to yield enough triangles for your banner’s saying.

2.) Cut square in half diagonally. Then cut across one more time to make the base of the triangle, leaving both long sides of equal length.

3.) For the words, print out saying in desired font and size on computer. Print out in mirror image if possible. If the letters are not mirror image, you will want to trace letters onto the Wonder Under from the backside of your print out (letters will be backwards).

4.) Trace letters onto paper side of Wonder Under.

5.) Following Wonder Under instructions, iron Wonder Under onto wrong side of fabric/felt.

6.) Cut out letters.

7.) Peel off paper backing and iron letters onto triangles. Letters should be placed so the triangle base is at the top.

8.) Sew or glue triangles onto ric rac or binding, making sure to overlap triangle bases 2” at the top.

9.) You can fold over ric rac or binding a few inches at the beginning and end of banner to make a little “tab” to hang banner.

10.) You can use spray starch on your banner to stiffen the fabric slightly.

a little something for Sunday

I love these tie onesies. I just barely started sewing when my first son was born, so I never made one for him. I've made plenty since then and I'm excited to have one for my little man #2.

boppy needs a new cover

I'm trying not to go too crazy with buying things for the new baby (I'm 34 weeks now!). Plus, I've already bought plenty of new clothes because Target loves to discount to the point where I can't help but buy cute outfits. But, I'm trying to find ways to have a few new fun things, without spending a ton of money. So, I thought a new boppy cover was a must! I've never liked the print on my boppy...see???

So, I changed it to aqua with white polka dots...you can never go wrong with polka dots...right? I basically used this tutorial.

The back overlaps with a velcro closure.

Alright...one more thing to check off my list!

Baby Nursery on the Cheap!

Only about 7 more weeks till my due date...yikes! I'm super excited to see this little guy, but yet I know that he is so much easier to take care of inside my belly than out, so I'm happy to keep him there for a little while. But, I better get things ready in the meantime, right? So, I worked on the baby's nursery. I didn't want to go "all out" yet and paint the whole thing and totally deck it out, so I opted for some simple, inexpensive decorating ideas instead. The theme is basically "bold colors" and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I hope our little boy likes it enough to sleep lots of hours in his crib :)

Here are a few BEFORE pictures. Just plain boring.

And here are a few AFTER pictures. I think it's definitely an improvement.

The crib. The bumper is a inexpensive one from Target. Then I added some colorful ribbon onto the bottom of a white crib skirt.

The Clothes-line. I made a sweet, simple clothes-line with baby clothes on it using THIS tutorial.

Paper Pinwheel Art. Simple and cheep...my two favorite things! I love how the pinwheels add a splash of color to an other wise boring wall.

Martha's Tissue Pom-Poms. So fun...I could put these all over my house!

The lamp. I just added a bunch of ribbon to this boring lamp...and now it's not so boring!

And a few other touches. Some dark navy curtains (these totally darken the room, I hope that helps baby sleep :), a bright yellow clock, a little "I am a child of God" board, and a rocking chair with my favorite quilt. I think the room is ready! Does that mean I'm ready too...we'll see!

Baby Boy Dress

No, I didn't really make a dress for my baby boy! But, I did make a little gown for him! When we had our first son, we had a little gown that he would wear to sleep. It was nice and easy to change his diapers when he woke up in the middle of the night. My husband would always call it his "dress". I thought it would be fun to make a new little gown for our little boy that is coming in January (who is still nameless...any suggestions?). So, here is a little "dress" made out of an old T-shirt of my husbands.

I love this eyeball shirt tutorial over on Martha Stewart's site. I knew as soon as I saw it that I HAD to make some for my kids. They are all about anything "scary"! They were easy to make and turned out super cool...and my kids LOVED them! Did I mention that we love HALLOWEEN around here?!!

I love fall! I happily welcome the cool weather and fun holidays! We decorated our house a bit to make it feel a little more like fall...or Halloween. My kids can't wait for Halloween! I made a simple Trick-or-Treat banner for the mantel and I love the way it turned out. Happy October!

Carson's Bedroom Tour

I finally took pictures of Carson's bedroom makeover. We actually finished his room this past winter, but never got around to taking any pictures...whoops! We painted his room in between two super huge snowstorms, where we were trapped in our house for a couple days. I love the way the stripes turned out. Hopefully it is mature enough to last him several years! The bedding and accessories were a "room in a bag" from Bed, Bath & Beyond. We also had some of the decorations already from his room in our old house. This was an easy decorating job, but I'm still super pleased with how it turned out.

Brynlee's Bedroom Tour

I had such a fun time transforming our boring white walled spare room to a precious pink little girl room for my daughter's third birthday. Since we'll need the nursery in a few months for the baby (oh, by the way...it's a BOY!), we decided to make a special room for Brynlee to move in to. Here is a tour of Brynlee's PINK room!

Before. Just boring, nothing special.

After! Totally pink with white accents. I love it! If she won't sleep in it...I definitely will!

The bed. I found this sweet shabby chic comforter at Target for half off..yeah! And I had to get the pink tutu bed skirt! I added my own touch of color with the pillows I made. And the horse was $3 at a garage sale...she loves the horse!

Above the bed I put three white frames (Target clearance) with three separate "pictures" inside that I made. The first is a ballerina leotard with a fru-fru tutu. The second is a flower with a pearl center. The third is a fabric silhouette of Bryn...with a little hairbow of course!

On the wall next to her bed I put her name with wooden letters and tulle.

The dresser I also found at a garage sale (it seems like everything was either found at Target or a garage sale). I loved the white color and girly mirror. Of course, I couldn't pass up the pink princess pig (Target) and the chandelier (Ikea) was a must for my little girl's room. The chandelier was only $40...good price and perfect touch to a girly room! I made an easy peasy cover for the ugly cord and chain.

The window in the room has simple white tab top curtains (Bed, Bath, & Beyond) and a pennant banner I made to match the pillows on the bed. I love pennant banners! They are a super simple way to decorate a room.

The other side of the room has a bookshelf (Ikea), toy box (Target), and a Doll house (garage sale). Brynlee loves the doll house and has been playing with it ever since. I was especially excited about the old window and wreath I made to decorate that large wall. My sister in law found the old windows last year and I've been just waiting for the perfect way to use them ( I still have one more!). I love the look of the window on the wall even though my husband still doesn't understand it. I got the idea and tutorial for the wreath at House of Smith's blog. It was super easy, but a little time consuming. I also put small pearls in the middle of each rosette. I am soo happy with how it turned out!

The story of Two Party Dresses

There once was a little girl who turned three. She loved dresses and loved feeling pretty. She received two party dresses for her birthday, one from her grandma and one from her mommy's good friend. Each dress was completely different from the other, but the little girl loved both dresses just the same. And so did her mommy, but for totally different reasons.

This fun and sassy party dress, made by mommy's good friend, was just adorable! It was so sassy and cute...perfect for this spunky three year old. As soon as she put it on, she started spinning around and saying "I'm so pretty!".

The other party dress, made by the little girl's grandma was also adorable! The style was classic and brought back fond memories for the little girl's mommy. It reminded her of when she was young and her mommy would make her special dresses. And when the little girl would put it on she would immediately turn into a princess. The lace, ruffles, and full skirt made this little girl feel like a real princess!

And that is the story of a little girl who turned three and her two very special party dresses.

Where to begin

I don't even know where to begin! I've been such a slacker on this blog! I'm amazed that anyone even looks here anymore...thanks! But, I do have a good reason, I promise! I've just been too tired to craft lately...is that a good enough reason? Seriously, I've been making little things here and there, but my sewing room has sadly been ignored lately. I just lay on the couch all day and try to take care of the kiddos. Okay, there is a reason I've been so tired too...I'm pregnant with #3! I'm 17 weeks now and we couldn't be more excited. We'll find out in two weeks what we're having...boy...girl...I can't wait to know! Then maybe I'll get a little extra boost of creativity to make some stuff for the new baby.

I have been doing SOME things lately. One of which was another guitar dress. Remember the guitar dress?

Well, I was at a little farm with the kids and Brynlee had on her guitar dress. A lady came up to me and asked where I got it. When I told her that I made it, she said that she HAD to have one and would pay anything for one! Wow...what a compliment! I ended up making one for her daughter and she was so excited. It sure does make you feel good when someone likes what you've made. Here's her little guitar dress.

Okay, now that I've explained my absence, I'll try to be better. I had so many fun ideas for summer dresses and shirts for Brynlee, but never had the energy to make anything. I'm hoping my energy will be back soon and I'll get my craft on again very soon!

I love these fun ruffled shirts. I've seen different tutorials all over blogland for them and I've modified the way I make them just a bit, but I just love how cute and feminine it makes a boring old shirt. Here is my little Brynlee modeling her new shirt. I found the tank at Target for $2, then added the knit ruffles/flowers to the neckline. I also have one more plain white corsage Tee left from the Festival last weekend...it's on sale in the SHOP.

ps. did you notice I got a new camera? It's a Canon Rebel T1i. I. Love. It.

A little clarification

Sorry for the super quick faux necklace tutorial...I didn't have time to get pictures of the process. I'm so glad you all like them! There were a few questions about it though. The first being what is Velveteen Paint. It's actually just Tulip brand fabric paint (you can buy at Joanns or Michaels) and the type is "Velveteen". Here's a picture, you can see on the white bottle in the middle it says Velveteen at the top of the label.

The Rhinestone Setter I have looks like this:

My friend, Tami, got it for me at Robert's (I think) out in Utah. It is awesome! It heat fixes rhinestones to practically anything!!

Faux Jewelry - a quick tutorial

I love the funky look of faux necklaces on shirts. I've seen these around on various blogs and in various stores (I just saw some last night at Wally World) and I think they are so cute!

Here's what I did to make these. Easy peasy, I promise!

supplies: shirt, Velveteen fabric paint, pins/pens/anything round to dip in the paint, rhinestone setter and rhinestones, scrap fabric, sewing basics (iron, sewing machine, etc.)

1.) Iron shirt in half length-wise so you can see where the middle of the shirt is.

2.) Put a piece of cardstock or cardboard in between the front and back of shirt so the paint won't bleed through.

3.) Use the head of a pin to make the small "beads". Dip the tip in the paint and then dot it on the shirt. Do this over and over till your skinny necklace is done. Make sure to use your ironed line as a reference to the middle of the shirt.

4.) Use the back of a pen/pencil/foam paintbrush to make the larger beads on the neclace. Dipping the end in the paint, then press it to the shirt. Continue this until the neclace is done. Make as many faux necklaces as you want on your shirt.

5.) Let dry several hours.

6.) Follow the directions on the paint bottle to make the Velveteen paint puff up.

7.) If you have a Rhinestone Setter, you can add a little bling to a few of the larger "beads".

8.) Make some sort of fabric flower to sit at the shoulder of the shirt and where the necklaces all meet together. Sew in place and you're done!

If you try out this tutorial, I would LOVE to see

your finished shirts!

SYTYC Week 4

Did you guess that the ANIMAL TAILS were mine? I had a fun time making these and the kiddos are having a blast playing with them! And guess what? Your kids can have fun playing with them too...the tails are now in the SHOP!

Our big street festival is THIS SATURDAY!! If anyone lives in VA, we'd love to have you stop by! It is on Main St. in Warrenton. There will be TONS of vendors, food, and fun! It's a great way to spend a Saturday morning with the family. The festival runs from 9am-4pm. Tami and I have been working hard to get ready for this and we have tons of fun stuff this year...we're excited! We hope to see you there!!

And one more thing...I just CAN'T resist showing you these pictures that Jen took. AMAZING!! What a perfect little model, eh? And those headbands she is wearing are new in the shop...for a totally affordable price! So fun and fancy...perfect for capturing the perfect picture!

I'm sure the gift a teacher really wants is a big wad of cash. But, since that isn't very crafty, I thought they might like something to organize a few of their numerous supplies. Whether they're at their desk at the front of the room or at a far table in the back of the classroom, they can put this Chair Back Organizer where ever they need quick access to some much needed supplies.

There are lots of pockets and spaces for all sorts of things! There are pockets for notebooks and folders....pencils and pens...little treats...even a place to hook your keys!

Mother's Day Corsage

I remember my Grandmother always wearing a corsage with her beautiful Sunday Dress. It seemed like she always had a corsage pinned on, whether it was a special occasion or not. She was beautiful and the true essense of a real woman. So, I thought I would make my mom a "corsage" for Mother's Day to show her how much I appreciate her and to remind her of her own mother. The centers of the flowers are old earrings of my grandmothers. Here's her corsage:

My sister also helped me out with the gift and made a beautiful poem to go along with the corsage. My mom already opened the gift and LOVED IT! It just goes to show that it doesn't take a lot of money to give a nice gift.

Happy Mother's Day! I love my mom and I love being a mom!!

I promise I've been sewing

I've actually been sewing a lot lately, but have nothing to show for it! Well, not really nothing, but nothing fun and new to put up on my blog. I've been sewing a ton for the Spring Street Festival that we're doing on the 15th. Tami and I have been trying to get all stocked up in the Shop, so we'll be ready for the festival. I hope it's as successful as it was a couple years ago! I've also been making stuff for SYTYC. It is quite intimidating trying to come up with a themed project every week that is fresh and fun. And getting good photos of it is a whole other issue! So, I have been busy, but don't have much to show for it...yet. I did get an awesome package in the mail the other day though...yards of stretchy lingerie elastic for making headbands...so fun! I'm addicting to making headbands! SYTYC week 2

Here's my entry from SYTYC week 2. Thank you everyone who voted for it! I can't take credit for this idea though, it was my awesome friend Tami's idea...thanks! I've been using this in my bathroom all week and haven't had to pick it up off the ground once...love it! I could do a tutorial, but really all it is is a towel that buttons on over the towel bar...easy peasy!

Don't you just hate it when you go to dry your hands off and you find the towel lying on the floor? Eliminate that problem completely with this super simple, yet super functional Stay-Put Hand Towel.

Your kids can now reach the towel because it hangs down low enough for them, yet they can't pull it off. It buttons in place to keep it securely on the towel bar. Keep that towel exactly where you want it!

Here's my "Folksy" entry from SYTYC last week. Did you guess this was mine? I had fun making this little guitar dress and think it turned out quite cute (considering all my friends thought the idea sounded a bit weird :) Head on over to SYTYC to see what this weeks theme is!

Guitar Dress

Memo Board Tutorial

Here's the tutorial for the memo board I used as my audition craft for SYTYC. Thanks again to everyone who voted for it! I didn't take pictures while I was making it, so the tutorial doesn't have any pictures...but don't worry, it's super easy! This memo board can be used for all sorts of things. It's a fun dry erase board for next to the phone, you can make it a calendar, a babysitter info board, chore chart...whatever you want!! Have fun! And as usual, if you use any of my tutorials, I would LOVE to see a picture of what you make!

Memo Board

Supplies: picture frame - whatever size you want, fabric (something that isn't too dark or busy so you can see your writing over it), transparency sheets,

1.) Paint picture frame if desired. You can also decorate the frame if you want too. I added some lace and a rosette to fancy mine up a bit.

2.) Take out cardboard insert from frame. Cut out your fabric a couple inches larger (on all sides) than the piece of cardboard. Iron fabric.

3.) Place cardboard on wrong side of fabric. Fold fabric over cardboard and tape down on back.
4.) If you want to add a calendar or babysitter info sheet, all you need to do is print it out on a transparency sheet. Make sure to print it on the rough side of the transparency sheet. Put this sheet in between the fabric covered cardboard and the picture frame's glass.

5.) Insert cardboard, with fabric now attached, in frame. Close frame. You're done! Easy, huh?

6.) Now you can use a dry erase marker to write on the frame's glass. You can even put a sticky back piece of velcro on the dry erase marker and the other piece on the top of the frame...so you never lose your pen!

On a side note. I took my serger in to the shop (a different shop than I originally thought I would have to) and guess what??? Apparentely my sweet daughter flipped a switch so my machine was set to do a rolled hem and not the normal serged edge. The guy fixed it, didn't charge me, I felt stupid but relieved, and I left a happy customer (not after having him show me some fancy machines that I want to buy now...does anybody have a baby lock? do you love it? How long can I talk in parenthesis?). So, I'm back to serging and super happy. Now I just need to get my SYTYC project submitted...yikes!

Spring Time Ruffle Tank

Here's my tutorial that was shared last week on Someday Crafts...thanks again Michelle! This is the perfect little ruffly tank to welcome in the warm weather...and it's super easy to make too!
Happy Spring!

Spring Time Ruffle Tank

supplies needed: tank top, 3" gathered ruffle lace, fray check, sewing essentials (machine, scissors, thread, etc), embellishments (fabric, lace, ribbon, etc)

1.) I used a size 4T tank top and 3" lace. You can use whatever size tank and lace you want to, you'll just need to adjust it accordingly. Lay your shirt down and lay the lace across the bottom so the bottom of the lace lines up with the bottom of the shirt. I layed the shirt on my rotary cutting mat so I could line the bottom edge with a line on the mat.

2.) Draw a line with a vanishing fabric pen at the top of where your lace was. Make sure to make the line straight by using the lines on your mat.

3.) Draw the remaining lines on the shirt. You'll want the lace to overlap about 1" and you'll want the last strip of lace to be at the neck of the tank. The measurements for how far apart your lines will be depends on how long your tank is and how wide your lace is.

4.) Once you have all your lines drawn on your tank, take the tank and the lace over to your sewing machine to sew the lace on. Starting with the bottom, sew a strip of lace onto the shirt lining up the top edge of the lace with the line you drew on the shirt. Make sure you secure your stitching with back-stitches at the beginning and end of the lace. When you get to the end of the row, just cut the lace and finish stitching it to the shirt.

5.) Continue sewing the lace on in this manner all the way up to the top of the shirt.

6.) When you get to the neckline of the tank, sew the lace on following the curve around the neck. Once you have all the lace sewn on, go back and put Fray Check on all the ends of lace to keep it from fraying.

7.) Embellish your tank with bows, ribbon, flowers, rossettes, buttons....or whatever you want!

And you're done! Now, bring on the good weather...we're ready!

For the past couple days my serger has not been working. I thought if I totally cut the treads and re-threaded it everything would be okay. Well, after threading it like 20 times (I'm totally not joking) and talking to Singer Customer support for 45 minutes, I still cannot get it to work! It just jams up the second I start to stitch. I am sooo frustrated! I finally came to grips with taking it for repair and called the two closest singer repair shops. Well, there is only ONE guy that services them and he picks up on thursdays and already came today. How am I possibly going to go a whole week before I can even take it in to be looked at! And it's going to cost at least half the cost of what I payed for it...argh!! I'm sooo frustrated (did I already say that). And I have this sinking feeling that it was my own sweet baby girl that messed it up (since the tension dials were changed). I have a spare sewing machine, but no spare serger! I think I'll go have a pity party now...boohoo.

I promise the next post won't be so depressing.

I absolutely LOVE it when you all email me pictures or links to projects you've made inspired by my tutorials! It's so fun to see your take on things and more times than not, I love your version more than my own! So, keep getting your craft on and sending those pics of what you've made...i love it!!! Tami and I are calling April our 'Spring Sale Month'. Each Monday in April we will be having a killer sale featuring a different category in our Shop. This Monday, April 5th, we'll be featuring our 'Just Like Mommy' Aprons. They usually cost $9.95, but for MONDAY ONLY the aprons will be on sale for $5.95. That's a great price for one of these super cute and functional aprons for kids. We use them every time we bake cookies, craft and sometimes when we eat. So check them out, they make great gifts too! furniture makeover HELP!

I am sooo impressed when someone takes an ugly old piece of furniture and turns it into something amazing! I love the blog Better After for this very reason...so inspirational! I have an old solid wood dresser with mirror that's been in my garage since we've moved in. I have big ideas for this dresser, but unfortunately I don't know how to do it. It 's a medium brown color now, but I want it to be white. Does anyone out there know how to do that?? Can I just spray paint it? Does it have to be a certain type of paint? Do I have to sand the whole thing, then paint it? The weather this weekend is suppose to get up to 80, so i'm ready to hang out in the garage and tackle that beast! Wish me luck, I hope I have something to show you next week!

Confused

I have been a bit confused lately about what to do with my blog. I love blogging and don't think I'll stop, but I'm not exactly sure why I do it. Sometimes I feel like I choose my blog over my family and well, that's just not right! I guess I'll just continue to do it for fun and not stress over it. But, my family will come first for sure.

I've also felt confused as to what I want to be crafting lately. I'll find some time to work on something and feel like I can't decide on what to make. I made something quick yesterday and ended up hating it...argh! So, I went back to my favorite thing to make lately...hair accessories! I've been doing a lot of those lately. Here are a few of my young girl ones. I really am enjoying the more sophisticated ones too...I actually wore one in my hair on Sunday (that's pretty crazy for me :) Do you like my headband holder thingie...aka, paper towels!

I also whipped up a quick little skirt from this skirt my friend gave me.

And I've been working on other random stuff, but I can't show you that just yet. One thing will be a guest post on a fun blog and the other is going to be my audition project for So You Think You're Crafty.

So, that's whats going on around here! I need to get focused and get my craft on! We have a big street festival coming up in May!
