I've always wanted to make a diaper bag, but I never did with my last two kids, so I thought I would make one this time! I really like messenger bags, so this Simplicity pattern really appealed to me. I'm so happy with how it turned out. I don't think it's quite as orange as the picture makes it look...but it's definitely a cheery orange...I love it!
I followed most of the directions, but did change a few things about the bag. I put in a "hidden" zippered pocket behind the front flap for all of my stuff...wallet, phone, etc.
I also added a little strap with a D-ring for my keys to clip to.
And I really like my purses/bags to go across my body, so I changed the original strap to a longer adjustable strap.
There are lots of pockets too! One large pocket on the back, two elastic pockets on the sides, one zippered pocket under the flap, and more pockets inside!
I love the fabric too! It's duck cloth and I got it on sale for $3/yard...wahoo! I bought 3 yards of it. So, since I had plenty of fabric, I made a cute matching diaper/wipes clutch too! I borrowed the pattern from my friend, Tami...isn't it super cute?
With a coordinating changing pad with fun quilting on it.
And a cute wipes case, of course.
I can't wait to use all my new fun baby stuff! All I need is a baby! Do you think it's too girly since I'm having a boy? It is for me, right?

great job!!
totally cute! I made this same bag only I followed the pattern except the inside I did only two pockets cause I wanted more room... So far it has lasted 11 months! Where as my walmart one last 1 month. LOL! I wish I had done some of the changes you did though. hmmm maybe I will make a new one. I love the zippered pocket and the way you did the strap!
oh and it is totally a mommy bag but I like having bags that are more for me ... everything else is for baby you can't wear blue all the time! Right?
I love it! It's so cute and the fabric is to die for
These are so super cute! I wouldn't have chosen that fabric off the shelf, but it looks great as a diaper bag! And I love the coordinating diaper/wipes case. Good job!
so cute! I love how you KNOW exactly what a mom wants/needs in a bag! Lovin' the fabric and rosettes!
Love it! It is girly but you carry it not him ;)
It all looks wonderful, Lynette. Enjoy every bit of it. He's not going to care, as long as his mama is happy.
Gorgeous! I had a pink, brown and orange bag with my baby boy so no it can be any color you want! Love it so! Sadly no babies over here anymore for me but I could make a laptop bag!
I made the same bag last year and loved it too - I love the changes you made! I could have used a key ring and adjustable strap - wish i'd thought of that too. Good job - it looks beautiful.
Love the fabric choices!!! It's so beautiful!
I so need you to live near me so we can set up sewing machines side-by-side. Oh the patience you must have...!
This is so cute! If you had these on etsy I think I would have to get one.
How would you feel about making another bag..do you have time?! You did an amazing job on this one..and I (being a beginner) couldn't (at this stage of my sewing game) even begin to come close to something so -practical- in the mommy world! Im interested in buying a cute little set like yours :) ...not for me though..no..no babies here..just friends and family popping the little ones out faster than I can -up- my skills!
SUPER CUTE!!! I LOVE THE FABRIC!!!
It's so beautiful! These are so super cute!

It looks great! My cousin (who is super hip and trendy) carried a hot pink diaper bag with her son, because as she used to say, "The baby isn't the one carrying it!"
I don't know if my last comment didn't post, so i'll try it again. First, I love this bag! I recently made a diaper bag and would love to add the extra changing clutch with the wipe cover. Do you have a tutorial or direction for making those? And also which pattern did u use for your bag?
Oh my gosh I am totally in love!!!! With the diaper bag and your blog!
It would only be too girly if you were making him carry it around.
I absolutely LOVE this bag! Love the color combination and everything about it. I have been wanting to make some cute purses like this. I guess I better get to work huh?!
This is absolutely adorable! My sister in law is having a baby in a few weeks and think she would love this. I am thinking of trying to whip it up for her as a gift. I was wondering if you would mind sharing the original pattern that you used as well as where you found your adorable fabric. She loves orange!!! Thanks for sharing...this is such a great bag!
