2009 Recap

I've been doing this blog for a little over a year now.  Although it was pretty sparse at first since we were busy selling our townhouse, moving into an apartment with half our stuff in storage, and then finally finding an awesome house to move into...yeah!  I am LOVING having this little place to keep track of all my projects, but even more I'm loving getting to know all of you crafty ladies out there!  You all are sooo inspiring!  I truly love reading your comments (you're way too nice) and I should probably make it a goal to use the computer LESS in the new year (at least my hubby probably thinks I should :)
So, here is my top 10 recap from 2009:

#9 - Ruffle Skirt

#4 - Bubble Skirt

And my number ONE favorite project of 2009 was......

I hope that all of you have a happy and safe New Year and I'll see you in 2010!!!

The Beast

A friend of mine asked if I could quilt the T-shirt quilt that she made for her daughter.  I was hesitant to do it, but agreed.  She had way more confidence in me than I had.  I am always nervous doing something for someone else, especially a quilt that was sentimental.  Well, the quilt quickly earned the name "The Beast" because it was the most difficult quilt I've quilted!  It's a larger quilt, but she left it in 3 segments.  The main problem was that it was soo heavy because it was made with t-shirts, sweatshirts, with old jeans as sashing, and a flannel backing.  It was so heavy and difficult to manage on a normal machine.  I started quilting it with invisible thread, but that wasn't working with the weight of the quilt, so I unpicked what I had done (such a pain!) and started over with a multicolored cotton thread.  I didn't do anything fancy, since the quilt is busy enough, just stippling.  I think it turned out pretty good and I'm sure glad to be done with it :)

Oh, and in case you don't already know, wearing latex surgical gloves is my secret for being able to grip the quilt and move it around when machine quilting...I couldn't do it without them!!

Happy Quilting!!

Rooty "TUTE" Tuesday - Gotta Try This!!

Here are a few of the super fun tutorials floating around blogland right now.  Why don't I have enough time in a
day to try all of these!!??

Ruffles and Stuff made some super cute knee-high socks out of old tights.  And she dolled them up too...so cute!  Now I wish I had bought those super cute striped tights I was too cheap to buy...dang it!

Make it and Love it has a fun tute on for making a project display board.  If I hadn't already done the magnet board in the playroom, I totally would've done something like this...so cute!

Samster Mommy has a tutorial for some crazy fun glitter toes!  She's working her way through all her fun Martha Stewart glitter.  My toes are in desperate need of a glittery pedicure!

And like I mentioned before, check out Blue Cricket Design for quick and easy instructions on how to put a signature at the end of your blog.  I love quick and easy blog help!

Arrrrr....Me Pirate Ship!

While I was home for Thanksgiving my dad wanted to show me something in the crawl space. The "crawl space" is behind the stairs and below a part of the house...and yes, you have to crawl to go in there. Anyway, there was a bunch of stuff under there, but what really caught my eye was this:

I asked if I could have it. I have a certain 4 year old boy who would love something like that. So, I took it home, threw it in the dishwasher, made a couple of flags for the masts and voila!
A cool pirate ship!

Then my hubby found some cool pirate guys to go with it. Oh, and sea creatures to attack the ship came from grandma. Now it's one of the coolest toys in the house!

Oh, and yes I learned my lesson to post gifts AFTER they are given,
so that certain little 4-year old won't see!

Do you like my new signature??
Becca over at Blue Cricket Design can
show you how to make one too!!
