Blogswap with MaryJanes and Galoshes

I'm so excited to be doing this blog swap with Taylor, from MaryJanes and Galoshes.  Everything on her blog is absolutely amazing, and this tutorial she is sharing is no different!  Here she is....

Hello Get Your Craft On readers!  And a big thank you to Lynette for asking me to be here today, I'm so excited to be crafting with you all.  First off, I'm Taylor from MaryJanes and Galoshes.  I'm a mother of three under three, about to celebrate my 7 year wedding anniversary to my high school sweetheart, and an artist all my life.  So stop on over sometime and say hello, I'd love to see you again.

Anyway, today we are going to make these adorable photo pencils!

That's my adorable little niece.  She's sassy and spunky and a big ball of fun.
What you need-
An adorable subject and three laser copies of the photo on REGULAR PRINTER PAPER (don't use a photo with too much detail, mine is about as small as your going to want to go) you can use a photo of anything you like, doesn't have to be a portrait.
mod podge
paint brush
paper cutter
set of 12 pencils

If you don't have access to a laser printer you can use double stick tape rather than mod podge, but mod podge allows for the pencil to be sharpened without the picture getting all ripped up in the sharpener.

Cut your photos up into 1.25 inch strips, make sure you keep them in order.  You can stack the like strips into one pile.  Separate your pencils into groups of three.

Each stack of three (three of the same strips) will wrap around a set of three pencils.  If your photo has a small face (like mine) take one of your outside pencils, print a 4th picture, and cut a 1.25 inch strip with the center of the face.

On a protected surface, cover the back of each strip with mod podge and wrap it around each pencil.  Make sure the edges are sealed with a little bit of mod podge around the edges.
Continue until all your photos are covered.

Roll each pencil until your picture appears!

Hope you had fun today!  Don't be a stranger.

Sincerely,
Taylor Ballweg

Blog Swap with A Vision to Remember

Happy Friday Everyone!  I'm excited to have Bobbie here for a little blog swap!  Check out all the fun stuff she does!  And can I just say that I love that we both mentioned Lady GaGa...hilarious!

***********************************************

Hello, Get Your Craft On Readers.

I am Bobbie over at A Vision to Remember!

I am super excited to be swapping blogs with Lynette today. We have emailed each other back and forth for a couple of months and I really admire her! I consider her one of my "bestest" blogging friends :)

We decided that today, we would answer some questions so here I go

  • What is your favorite room in your house?
I would have to say it is my bedroom. It is my sanctuary. It is the one place that I can leave it all behind.

  • What is your favorite song of all time?
(I picked this question and now I am wondering why...IT IS HARD) I love music. I love to play the piano and dance. Some of my favorite artists right now are Leona Lewis, Lady Gaga (but man sometimes I wish her tunes were not so CATCHY), Josh Groban, and Il Divo. But I would have to say that my favorite song of all time is by Meatloaf entitled "I would do anything for love". I especially love the 8 minute version. I could listen to that song all day (and believe me I have)

  • What is your favorite thing from your blog?
I would have to say that my absolute favorite was
This beautiful flower. I still have not found the persons blog that I saw a flower similar to this that they purchased, but I knew that I had to have one. This flower has yet to have a name as wonderful as it is, so let me know if you have any ideas

  • What are you working on right now?

I am actually working on two different blankets right now (ok only 2 that I am admitting to). The top one is a new pattern for a car seat tent that will be available in my shop the beginning of next week if everything goes as planned.

The second is a pattern that I am testing for a friend. It is a quilt top, and I would have had it on the quilter but something else seems to be on it not finished (I am not admitting anything though). I think it is going to turn out just gorgeous!

  • What is your favorite type of craftiness?
I am with Lynette (I guess you will have to go see what she had to say here huh?)

I LOVE to sew. I can make just about anything with that thing. I am going to be attempting a tent this weekend for my soon to be 4 yr old for her birthday.

Some of my favorite sewing projects have been

Making dresses for my girls

Super Bowl ShirtsAnd pretty flowers

Thank you so much Lynette for swapping blogs with me. I hope to see you all over at my blog!

Blog Swaperoo with Oops! I Craft My Pants!

I'm super excited to be swapping blogs with Erika today.  I laugh every time I see the title of her blog...awesome.  Here she is!

Hey GYCO readers! I am so excited to swap blogs with Lynette today. She is so funny and I love that she didn't want to do the traditional yawner of a blog swap.

We decided to come up with a few questions to answer, instead of just blabbing on and on (and on) about ourselves with no rhyme or reason.

But, before I start, I should probably introduce myself, right? Well, my name is Erika and I am the "creative mind" behind the blog Oops! I Craft My Pants! I hope you stop by so that we can get to know each other a little better!

Okay, on to the questions.

1.) What project to you think best describes YOU?
Probably my Mod Podge Shoes. I think that the fabric I used shows off my playful personality perfectly (plus...I have about a million shoes).

Photobucket

2.) Considering all types of craftiness, what is your favorite thing to make?
Hm... It changes frequently. Right now, I am really into acrylic paint...So probably taking a boring frame and making it something fun. It's fast and so easy. My "Beady" Frame is most recent.

Photobucket

3.) What is your favorite snack to munch on while crafting?
I don't usually snack when I craft. I am too busy getting it done! I will say, though... I love myself some lime popsicles when I'm not crafting, though. I can eat like three in one sitting. SO good.

4.) Which craft of yours is your husband's favorite?
He is a big fan of my wire memo board, but claims he loves everything I make (aww)...He's too sweet.

Photobucket

5.) Besides crafting, what do you like to do in your free time?
Besides crafting...Wow. That's hard! I'm a pretty simple gal and don't have all that many hobbies (outside of crafting)...But, the thing I spend the most time doing is reading. I LOVE to read. love it. I even started an online book club this past week. You should join. The ladies are great.

6.) Say you were stranded on and island and could only have one of your previous crafts with you. Which would you choose, and why?
I would definitely take my Cookie-Sheet Calendar with me. It has pictures of all my family members, so hopefully it would make me feel a little less lonely!

Thanks so much, Lynette for swapping today! You are so incredibly talented!

Blog Swap with I Make Stuff....and a Tutorial!!!

I'm so excited to be swapping blogs with Alida today.  She is pretty new to blogging but you would never know it!  Check out her blog and show her some love!  Oh, and well you're over there check out my latest addition for the El Cheap-O Shirt Challenge.

                                                    *******************

Hi, I'm Alida from I Make Stuff. I'm pretty new to sewing and a brand new blogger, and I'm so excited to have this opportunity to share a tutorial here on Get Your Craft On! Here are some fun facts about me:
1. I used to sing opera and still do in the shower! (That's me on the right.)

 2. I hate using patterns, I never do it unless I have to. In fact every pattern I own is in this small box:

3. I am totally obsessed with turquoise right now.

4. I've only been sewing for about a year, and it wasn't even my idea to start. My mother-in-law gave me her old sewing machine when she got a new one (and it was the best gift I've ever gotten!) My first solo sewing project:

5. Most people think I'm a natural red head, but in fact I'm a brunette! (I think, I haven't seen my natural hair color in about 12 years.)

Now for my tutorial!

Applique Birthday Crown

The instructions for the applique are on I Make Stuff if you need them! These instructions are for making the crown.

Materials:
two different fabrics for front and lining (and matching thread)
two pieces of ribbon at least 10 inches each
thick stabilizer or fusible fleece

First you will need to measure your child's head and decide how big you want your crown. I made one of these for my 4-year-old and admittedly it was a little large. I couldn't help it though, I was trying to make it like a Miss America Crown! Here is a pic of that one:

As you can see it is about 14 inches long by 7 inches tall.
Since this one is for the baby I decided to make it a little smaller.

Get a piece of paper and fold it in half, then draw out this shape:

Make sure you allow for 1/4 seam allowance and add 1/2 inch to the bottom. Unfold it and look at it, fix it if you need to, and then use it as a template to cut the front fabric and the lining fabric. This is what you should have:

Now decorate as you wish! Like I said the cupcake applique is on my blog if you need it (shameless plug again! I'm sorry!)

Get your two pieces of ribbon and heat seal the ends with a lighter. Put one crown piece right side up and place the ribbons on the sides facing in, then lay the other crown piece on top and pin, leaving the bottom open.

Sew around the crown leaving the bottom open. Make sure you catch the ribbon as you go. Snip the corners, turn and press. Fold the bottom edge under all the way around 1/2 inch and press.
Now it looks like a crown!

Lay your crown on top of your stabilizer or fusible fleece and use it as a template to cut it out. Cut 1/4 inch off the bottom. Stuff the stabilizer into the crown and iron again. Make sure the stabilizer is all the way covered, and topstitch the bottom closed.

Now comes the best part, try it on the kiddo (or yourself!)

WARNING, this will cause extreme cuteness! I cannot be held responsible for the pinched cheeks and goofy grins from strangers that may result from wearing this crown.

Blog Swap - Adventures in Dressmaking

Happy New Year!

Hi there, folks at Get Your Craft On!  I'm Suzannah from Adventures in Dressmaking and I'm so excited to be blog-swapping with Lynette today!  I’m pretty new to the blogging community but I am absolutely loving it!  On my blog I share sewing, decorating, and crafty projects I do.  There are so many great blogs out there, so many talented people sharing their projects and ideas.

I grew up around a very talented mother who makes historic clothing for museums and reenactors, so I have been sewing from a very early age.  I started to really get into sewing one summer a few years ago when I made two or three sun dresses from the same variable pattern, and since then I am hooked on making my own clothes for a fraction of the cost of similar ones at Anthropologie and J.Crew!

I have branched out recently, particularly since moving into a new apartment with my fiance, and I now do a lot of home dec sewing (simple curtains, pillows, etc.) and spray paint art!

Here are some of my favorite projects that I've been blogging about:

Hope you all have had a great holiday season and are ready to pack up the Christmas decorations and craft away in the new year!  I always enjoy taking a look at Lynette's blog, and hopefully you will find some fun things on Adventures in Dressmaking as well.  Hope you come by and visit!

***Thanks Suzannah for swapping with me today!  I love your style and I'm definitely going to have to try your mending jeans tutorial.  Thanks!!!
